Dance n’ Doodle Journey
7 days of dancing, doodle prompts, rhythm, and free flowing adventure!
“We are primed to be visual thinkers,” Sunni Brown, leader of the Doodle Revolution
As a child, I studied jazz dance for four years and visual arts for two. Even though I was considered a student who ‘got it’, I didn’t know back then that it was possible to actually feel rhythm and was always concerned about drawing “incorrectly.” I felt ‘glued’.
Over the past year, however, many changes have taken place in my life (incl. leaving my FT teaching job). Through it all, I’ve started to unravel. It’s been amazing!
Dancing and doodling are now my two favourite things to do in the morning (in addition to having a big cup of black tea, of course). Dancing clears my head and connects me to my body. Doodling gets my creative juices swirling.
I’ve called this my Dance n’ Doodle journey and want to continue it with you!
My idea?
The question behind Dance n Doodle is not why your body connects to rhythm. Oliver Sacks has helped us out with that.
The question is how your body experiences rhythm in its own unique way.
The idea is to have fun with free flowing dance and doodling, turn the “should” part of the brain off, and learn a few things about yourself along the way.
Benefits of dancing and doodling
- Give you a energy boost
- Put you in a good mood
- Reduce stress and anxiety (who doesn’t need that)
- Doodling, in particular, helps you process conscious and sub conscious info
- Gets you thinking of creative solutions to problems at the office or home
What does it include?
- Videos on the Meditative Arts site to inspire you
- Daily Dance n’ Doodle prompts delivered to your inbox (to guide you through the process)
- Private Flickr group to share your doodles (if you wish)
- A few rhythmic music clips (featuring instruments I know and love)
What’s the process?
Get your prompt–>dance to your fave song or rhythmic music clip–>doodle–>share and connect with others (Flickr, FB, Twitter using #dnd hashtag, Meditative Arts site, your blog)
I’m pretty busy. What’s the time commitment?
- Firstly, it’s 100% free to take part
- This journey lasts for 7 days
- You can complete the activities wherever you please
- You only have to spend 5 min on each activity
Sounds great! How do I join?
Send me an email with “dnd” as the subject line, and that’s it! Feel free to join the Meditative Arts mailing list while you’re at it (form to the right) for other goodies/discounts.
The journey begins Jan 3, 2011, so be ready to dance, doodle, and connect! Help spread the word on FB, Twitter (#dnd), or your blog
